About

Hello everyone,

I am a 33 year old woman living with severe scoliosis. I run a ballet school, have 4 kids and have a wonderful supportive husband. I will be having surgery at Stanford this July. This blog will chronicle my daily life leading up to and after surgery. My last x-ray showed curves 83, 68, 58,  I have arthritis down my entire spine as well as a kyphotic curve going outward as well.   When scouring the internet for a case like mine, I couldn’t find much. So, I have created my own! So, here it goes….

  1. Dearest April,
Okay. I laughed (the “wiping” part, the Lidocaine patches coming off and the excitement over CT discs), I cried (the thought of you feeling alone and that this disease defines you, defines how people see you, and knowing that you endure fleeting thoughts of guilt over Will’s diagnoses), but mostly I was in awe at your amazing sense of humor, your humility, your love of life, and all things beautiful (dance, fashion, art, children). I was in awe of your love towards your ballet kids, and your resilience, strength and extreme tolerance. Even before knowing about your quiet and significant suffering, I was amazed with the grace with which you balanced 4 kids and a full-time job (especially as I seem to have trouble balancing 2 kids and a now part-time job!) When I see you, I see nothing short of sparkling brilliance, intelligence, and everything that is beautiful inside and out. Reading your blog reminds me of what is really important in life->being able to enjoy as much of it as we can, learning to endure it, and touching as many people and the world itself in as positive a way as we can. I am inspired and I thank you for that. I wish you everything wonderful and a life full of dance!

    Much love,

    Maryanne Christoforou
